Life-Nature Project: conservation of the mussel's habitat

Mussels live a hidden life like all the other water animals. They are fragile lifeforms heavily depending on good water quality.

Now, 90% of the populations are disapeared and the species is threatened with extinction in Europe.

At the beginning, the pearl mussel fishers were responsible for the regression (only 1 mussel of 1000 has eventualy a pearl (without value)). Augmentation of water pollution and progressive dissapearance of their habitats provoked these species are actually on the brink of their extinction.

Because of the Life-Nature project, we hope to protect the last belgium pearl mussel popultations.
